4Player Podcast
Site: 4Player Podcast
Description:
The guys of 4Player Podcast (4PP) are a tight-knit group of friends that get together to produce a podcast and blog about video games. When contacted by David, they were using a Blogspot blog and forums hosted on Proboards. David was looking to change the site to be something that they would have more control over and be able to easily move the content to different host(s) or platform easier if wanted.
The first suggestion I had for them was to use Wordpress for the main blog and if vBulletin for the forums. David had also mentioned that he wanted to combine what Wiki’s were out there to be hosted under the same 4PP domain. So for that I suggested using MediaWiki.
After David agreeing to give things ago I threw together what ended up being the final design and plugged it all. The site uses custom plugins from vBulletin.org as well as various Wordpress plugins (if interested in learning more contact me at contact@alanhoskins.com). One of the plugins bridges together the logins for all three so that a user only needs to register via the forums to be able to comment on the blog or post on the wiki. Although I currently feel that this isn’t the best solution (as there are sometimes problems in the backend), it has held up pretty well.
The future for the 4Player Podcast site may include another makeover for aesthetics and to make the overall system work better. If you have any ideas or input in what would make the site better, feel free to drop me a line at contact@alanhoskins.com or on Twitter @alanhoskins.
