Just switched to HostGator

by Alan Hoskins on May 4, 2009

Up until last night I had been using 1and1 as a hosting service. I can not complain about the service that I received while with them, but for somethings I wanted to do I was not allowed. I was paying $29.95 for 3 months of “business” hosting yet couldn’t have a wildcard subdomain and some other features. So last night I made a switch.

On the recommendation from a friend that goes by Swiftor

horror movie

, I made the switch to HostGator

The Book of Eli divx

. For the same $9.95 a month (or $7.95 if you pay for a year in advance) I get everything I had with 1and1 plus more. The biggest thing to me is HostGator uses CPanel, which is an awesome Control Panel to use for configuring your websites and backend.

So after changing my DNS over to point at HostGator, I was able to setup and have my websites back up and running within minutes. I uploaded my old database files and server files then was good to go. For anyone not familiar with doing such HostGator offers a transfer service for free where they will handle the moving of all files/databases over for you.

* UNLIMITED Disk Space
* UNLIMITED Bandwidth
* Host UNLIMITED Websites
* FREE Instant Setup
* 99.9% Uptime Guarantee
* 45 Day Money Back Guarantee

* FREE Site Builder
* cPanel Hosting
* 24/7/365 Upgraded Support

Only $7.95 /month

Plus the technical support is very quick and very friendly. I used live chat support 2-3 times before I made the switch, and then another 1-2 after and never had to wait that long. So if anyone is looking for a new host or looking to make a switch from one who doesn’t quite offer what you want, then take a look at HostGator and give it a try.
