Today T-Mobile announced, with Google and HTC, the new G1 Android based phone. The phone will be available on October 22, 2008 and will run $179 with a 2 year contract (and $18 upgrade charge for current customers, how nice).
T-Mobile has the announcement online for everyone to watch here.
The T-Mobile G1 with Google is the first commercially available phone to run on the ‘Android’ operating system, which empowers developers with tools to create and offer consumers applications that add value to their lives.
A few of the features include:
- Touch Screen
- One Touch Google Search
- Customizable Home Screen
- 3 Megapixel Camera
- Google Maps Street View
- Full QWERTY Keyboard
First commercial for the G1 on YouTube:
I have an urge to want to buy this phone, but have been thinking about canceling my T-Mobile service when my contract is up in February. I bought the iPhone last month and signed a 2 year contract with AT&T, so there is really no point to have T-Mobile anymore. If the price without a contract isn’t extremely expensive I may have to pick one up anyway. Carrying two mobile carriers isn’t too bad, right? Minus the two $100+ bills.
